Blogging is not as easy as it seems because with so many competitors for readership attention, quality is your best chance to gaining and retaining traffic to your site.
There are a lot of advantages when promoting products, services, places or causes online and with the right strategy and content development you sure can bring home the message and possibly direct your audience to a desired action when a certain level of trust has been established and when you have initiated a great need for them to do so.
I’ve been blogging for more than four years now and there were a lot of things to learn along the way before my main blog, Jayseeblabs became what it is today: awesome feature site that promotes life in the Philippines, specifically Cebu, to the global stage.
So just how do you write quality content for your blog? Follow this five simple steps to crafting unique blog post:
1. Tone and Style
Tone and Writing Style is the author’s personality online. You have to keep in mind as to who you are writing for, why you are posting this and what do you want them to learn, understand or think about. That is why you don’t write in formal when you are addressing to a bunch of kids.
2. Headings
People don’t really read long paragraphs online. That’s a fact. Hence, the Terms and Conditions. But you can break these long sea of gray into chunks with headings and it will even have better SEO. Think of your post as a book so you have to break them into chapters and each chapter could have around 2 paragraphs with 2-3 sentences each. I mean sometimes for long posts it’s the headings that I only read to get the idea and you can apply that same notion to your blog too. One more thing, don’t be afraid to use big font sizes and colors to emphasize some really powerful lines.
3. Length
This is one factor that is very much debated among webmasters online as to what exactly is the ideal length for a blog post. The idea behind a blog post is to write as few words as possible if you want to direct your readers elsewhere. Long post should be something interesting enough for me to scroll way way down. You can always set a cap like don’t go overboard with 1,000 words unless it is really worth that discussing. You’re best bet is to have read by someone and ask, ‘where did you stop reading?’
4. Rich Media
You can break that reader’s stress by adding in great photos, videos, audio clips, animations and even ads in between. This is the beauty of online publishing. Multimedia and interactive content can engage audience way way way better than traditional forms of information dissemination. You can even splash in polls, forms, and lots of other things like games, banner ads, buttons, links, maps and even embed a whole site inside yours! Take advantage of the possibilities!
5. Usability and Significance
Always, a golden rule, write something that will be of value to your readers and gain organic traffic in the long run!
